Can't get f1 to respond to boot up computer

Dell Dimension 4700c desktop

Specs: Windows XP
I needed to reboot my computer because it froze while I was on and when the prompt screen came up (I have to press F1 to get into the Windows XP screen) and now it will no longer let me press F1. If I press it enough times or keep it down long enough, it will beep at me. But it will not let me boot up at all. I can get into F2 or F12 but nothing else. I run a virus scan once a week and spyware scan as well. I had just run it on Sunday and deleted what it found. I'm trying to put in my CDs that came with my Dell sytem to fix any registry errors or anything that may have gone bad, but it will not let me into the computer at all. Just stays on that screen. Luckily I have my laptop which I'm using. If anyone can help me with this, I'd appreciate it. My email is:
I'm more than frustrated at this point and scared as heck because I can't afford any problems at this time with Christmas coming up. I just need some help figuring this out. Oh, and I did try another keyboard, so it's not that. Thank you in advance for any help.

Borrow a different keyboard. Best if it is ps/2, some usb key boards don't do well on bios.

Why did it take me over a year to phone in a problem to ATT?

Edit out that email address pronto. Hope its not too late but the spammers engines will find it and you'll get junk mail forever. Never put your email address in open text on the net - if Google can find it so can they!

I'm obviously far too late - its all over the net. Only a change of email address will help now.

Most of the time when you get the press F1 to continue it's failed the harddrive S.M.A.R.T test. run a diagnostic on the drive. You can make a dignostic disk by downloading the file from dell drivers site. Just go put your service tag in. If you can boot to a USB stick you can create it on that. Make sure you get your data off the USB stick first.

Just because the OP does not come back in 3 or 4 days to reply, does not mean he will not come back and reply.

You need to start your own post. This one is started on Dec 1st 2010 so hardly anyone will notice it. In any case no two problems are exactly alike and we don't even know what operating system you are using..
