can't find ethernet controller driver

Microsoft Windows 7 ultimate - upgrade

Specs: windows XP home, 4 gigs
I've looked all over and can't find the ethernet controller driver for my gateway solo 1200. I've searched on gateway's web site and still no ciger. any help would be helpful. thanks

Go to:
http://support.gateway.com/support/...
and enter your serial number.
As long as all of your hardware is original, this is the way to go.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
If all else fails, read instructions.

thanks, tried it and it didn't work. they had nothing for ethernet controller.

I searched their site too. There doesn't appear to be a driver available for Windows 7.

Although Gateway often uses customized hardware and drivers, you can try to find out exactly what hardware (Ethernet card, or motherboard if integral) and look to the manufacturer's site for it. Gateway might be able to show you the exact hardware using your serial number (I've done it for my older Gateways before), or else you may need to open the case to look (you will need make, model, and version number).

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
If all else fails, read instructions.

you may also be able to ID the network chip using a live linux cd, then go to the manufactures site to look for a driver.
