I am not querying about this laptop. I have a Dell Desktop PC. I am getting rid of it, so wanted to clean the hard drive and re-install Win XP. I followed instructions. I have seen posts on here before regarding the fact that now I can't seem to change the screen resolution. It is on 600x800 16 bit. There is no other res listed. I can't move the slider. I have looked at the Adaptor, and made the changes there, but to no effect. I have checked the monitor settings, and it's on "default monitor" but I can't change anything there even if I wanted to. Should I try the re-install again?

I noted the replies on old posts, but I didn't quite understand them. I am not tecchie so any answers I would need spelled out as if I am an idiot. I want to try and do it again today as someone has asked if they can have the machine.

Thanks for any help on this.

Go to DELL Support page and from the Model of the PC it will list drivers available for the on-board graphics chip, if it has an add-in graphics card go the manufacturers site for the driver.

Though DELL usually supply both an XP re-install CD and a Driver & Resources CD !!

Hi - yes, I used all the Dell disks to re-install XP and all the drivers etc. However, I was advised to start the process all over again, and wiped the machine with a programme called kill disk, then re-installed everything from scratch, and it seems to have worked.

Thanks for taking time to reply.
