Can't change NEC LCD monitor resolution

August 27, 2010 at 21:53:21
Specs: Windows XP
I have a NEC LCD1515 monitor and I recently recovered my system, but I cannot change the resolution without it saying out of range. When I check the advanced to see what the monitor is set to, it says default and will not let me change it. The properties button is grayed out and will not let me press it. I tried downloading the driver off the NEC website, but am not sure how to install it. I am currently on 800x600 resolution and cannot go any higher.

You don't need a monitor driver.
You need a graphics driver for the graphics card.

Is your system a namebrand thing or was it custombuilt? Since you have only a basic default graphics driver installed it gives you no options. You need to identify the make/model of the graphics adaptor and install the applicable driver.
If it is an onboard graphics adaptor then the motherboard or system maker will have drivers. If it is a plug-in videocard then you may need to look at it to identify it.

My computer is a CICERO, bought out of a retail store. To identify it, would i have to look at the card itself, internally?

Start\run and type in

msinfo32

It will cough up all the info about everything installed in your system; hardware and software...
