Cant boot up at all

January 30, 2011 at 16:52:58
Specs: Windows XP
I downloaded something and as soon as i clicked it total security virus installed then my pc just went off i then turned it on only for it to say verifying DMI, and it doesnt go off that screen. Iv tried reseting the bios by removing the battery but all that does is reset the name of my hard drive from that of what the virus give it. As soon as it says update sucess its changed again. Iv tried booting up from a xp disc but that says Couldnt find NTDLR, iv tried the disc on another pc and it starts the setup no problem on it. I tried using a toshiba windows 7 disc that starts up but only if i dont have a hard drive connected. I havnt a clue what i can do now. Any help would be appriciated.

Download and burn Avira Antivir Rescue System CD image.
Then start the infected computer from this CD.
At the first screen, you simply have to press enter key.
When boot process has finished, click the update button, to download the latest virus definition files.
Then click the configuration button and tell the program, what to do on found infection.

Report back the result.

Next step after Avira, is to run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Try it in Safe mode.
If it won't run, rename the downloaded mbam-setup.exe file to mb.exe to help work around certain malware that will block it from being run.
If it still will not run.
1: Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features and uninstall Malwarebytes.
Next redownload Malwarebytes but rename it before you download it to your desktop. As you are in the process of downloading when you get to the point that the "enter name of file to save to" box appears, in the "filename" slot, rename mbam-setup.exe to something.exe, then click Save.
If it installed but will not run, navigate to this folder:
2: C:\Programs Files\Malwarebytes' AntiMalware
At the top of the page, Tools > Folder Options > View, click > Show hidden files and folders and untick > Hide extensions for known file types.

Rename all the .exe files in the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder and try to run it again.
When it opens, update 1st.
If it won't update after installing, update manually.
