This machine boots OK until I get this message: Due to major HW changes this version of windows must be re-activated within three days. Do you want to re-activate now?" I do not know when these HW changes were made but the system will not respond to keyboard inputs. It appears to be frozen, as if the 3 day period has passed. How can I get around this problem so I can activate the system?
So, you didn't change any hardware recently? If not, try booting into the BIOS screens and see if the date is correct. When was the current installation of Windows performed?
The computer came to me with a bad motherboard, which I replaced. The HDD has a functioning copy of XP on it. All the BIOS info is correct. I know that XP will not transfer to a new mobo - it has to be re-installed. I did not expect to see this message, I thought it would not boot at all. I have the original installation disk but not the product code. If I could extract it I could re-install the O.S.
