I have dell home edition xp. upgraded to xpsp3 from microsoft.com When I try to run sfc/scannow. Asks for sp3 disk. What do I do,
don't have xpsp3 disk.
See if this works: - open My Computer
- right click on the C: partition, then click Properties
- click the Tools tab
- under Error Checking, click "Check Now..."
- check the box next to "Automatically fix file system errors", then click Start.
- restart the system & let it run
Download SP3 and install
Thanks everyone jam has answered my question. Thanks again.
I have a DELL XPS400 and the O/S is WinXP MCE2005 . When I recieved the PC it came with a dozen or so CD' all relating to the software bundled with the system . A very nice set of software from Cine player to Roxio Easy Cd Creator ,and Microsoft's Works Suite ! One CD is the O/S reinstallation DVD called Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Version 2005 with Update Rollup 2 . THis DVD works when I use it for the sfc /scannow utility . It takes about 20 minutes to run and I can see by the H.D. activity light on my tower the H.D. is being written to at times thru the process ! Are you putting the space between the c / when entering this into the run command ?
Good Luck Nick
