Solved Cannot recover deleted pst file

February 20, 2013 at 09:16:15
Specs: Windows XP
I deleted accidentally mi PST file. Installed several recovery programs (Recuva, Recover My Files, Stellar Phoenix Win Data Recovery, Active @ Undeleted, Pandora Recovery) and none of them show the deleted file in the original folder.

I even made a new test, deleted an old copy of my PST located in the same folder and run all programs without making any changes in the hard drive and cannot view the PST file in the deleted file list.

Both files were deleted with shift+del and the size was 500Mb aprox. Running Win XP.

How can this be possible? Is there any way I can recover the deleted file?

Johnw its a local copy of .pst or there would be no need for recovery software.

Flox15 you should never install software when trying to recover a file. You run the recovery software from a usb or cd boot disk. This prevents the file from being partially or fully overwritten.

Another aspect is how much free space do you have? If not much then a deleted file can be overwritten immediately.

There is also the issue of a corrupt file table. You run chkdsk /f to correct this.

But all of this sounds too late in your situation.

Not at this point. Most likely you have overwritten the space it had occupied with your tests and installs.

wanderer: but what about the file I deleted after installing all the programs? Nothing else was done after that deletion, only run the recovery software and still could not find the pst in the list.

Johnw: unfortunatelly, I use POP3 with no copy on the ISP server.

Hi buddy,

I think you have made a big mistake . First mistake that you have committed is deleting your pst file. Then you must have installed the recovery tool in different volume of your hard disk because the default pst location is the logical drive and default installation of all the software is the same logical drive. And some of the recovery tools will only recover files which are commonly used. you need a tool like remo recover because this type of tool has the ability to scan and recover files with unique signature patterns.
