Cannot install Windows XP

October 7, 2010 at 07:45:11
Specs: Windows XP
I am trying to install Windows XP. I have a Windows XP OEM Preinstallation kit CD, but everytime I boot to the CD, it stops at the screen: X:\i386\system32>
What am I doing wrong, or what can I do??

I have to use this CD because I do not have any of the CDs that came with the laptop.

... from D:\i386\system32>

(type) CD.. [press enter] (thats cd with two dots)

... which should put you back one directory to D:\i386\

(type) WINNT [press enter]

... hope you have the cd key!

After I typed "CD.." it did bring me back to the X:\i386\ directory.

However, when I typed in "WINNT", then hit enter, it said "'WINNT' is not recognized as an internal or external command..."

I did do a Killdisk on the hard drives, if that makes any difference. I basically just wiped out all the data to 0's.

No, just command line.

In one of the previous lines it says: "X:\i386\system32>factory -winpe"

"...I did do a Killdisk on the hard drives, if that makes any difference..."

... I was hoping you had a recovery partition, the above zaps that!

... wild guess ..."acer?"
