Specs: Microsoft Windows XP Professional, 2.128 GHz / 1021 MB
recently my internet connection has started to have an issue where pages begin to load but then slow way down before finishing showing all objects. Additionally, my google search results do not link to where they indicate. It is clear I have some type of virus etc, but I can't use google to try and rid myself of the issue. I have run avast! and spybot without success.

Not sure if the cause is the Window's update I ran or not, but I cannot get the machine to run the update again. It tries to open in IE but blank screen only.

my primary browser is firefox

thanks for any advice

Try using disk cleanup.
"To open Disk Cleanup, click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup".

Try booting up to safe mode and run your malware apps there. Sounds like you may have been hijacked.

You could also try to restore to an earlier date.
