Okay I have a xp home edition. I have 1 drive that is partioned to C and D. My C is the small part and has the operating system on it. My D drive has most everything else on it. I have changed where the downloads go to my D drive. We also have another drive which is J. Awhile back I had to restore my computer. When I did, I could not reinstall Adobe PDF. Recently I tried to reinstall all of my HP All-in-one printer with no success. I have have HP stumped. I cannot delete or add a folder, file , or nothing in my D: Program Files. It says access denied. I cannot change the permissions either. HP even had me add a folder to D: Program Files in safe mode, and I can do this. Then they told me to try and reinstall the HP, but no luck, then it says cannot find the path. I am stumped. Yesterday I ran my virus scanners such as Spybot, MBAM, and super anti spyware. My computer would not let me update these nor my firewall. So I just ran them all and rebooted. A lot of things were blocked. After I rebooted all these dos windows popped up and disappeared. Other than trying to install things, oh and when I tried to update MBAM, it said access was blocked and it took off my MBAM. So I reintstalled it inot my J drive, and it ran okay. I would just like to load things without having these issues. I am the main user and administrator on my computer, and I cannot change things, Can you please help me before I become totally bald. LOL, Just kidding. Thank you.

By what process did you setup Program Files on D?
You must also make the right HKLM registry changes for updates to work.

I changed the internet explorer from c to d drive under the registry keys. It was all working until I had to restore. I have a small c drive and everything was downloading to it. So I changed the download from c to d. My Adobe was not working, so I uninstalled it, then I could not reinstall it, and the same for my HP printer. It says cannot find the path, or cannot access d drive. I am not sure. I mean I can keep it this way but it is not right.

"Awhile back I had to restore my computer"

By the results I would guess that "restore' was a new install.
This would result in the ownership sid not matching which gets you an access denied error on the folder and files.

Google taking ownership of files for the how to fix this.
