gerryg1950, SWAG, suspect the key to the whole deal is the fact that you formatted. That effectively erased all the saved knowledge you had and you need to start again.
First thing I'd do is plug in the drive and reboot. That'll let your system detect and register the external drive. If it required any special drivers, etc., you may need to get them again.

When I reformatted my Hard Drive, I ensured that it was the main internal drive (i.e Drive C) I was reformatting. My external drive remained untouched during the reformatting. However,I did not disconnect it because I felt it would not be affected being a Plug & Play Unit (No installation or Drivers needed). Was I wrong in not disconnecting it.If so, have I lost all the data I had on my external Drive?
As a matter of fact I had already tried what you kindly suggested but it never worked.

Just thought I'd let you know that I have now reformatted my external hard drive and therefore lost all the files I wanted to recover but couldn't.I have since replaced my computer with an upgrade model and restarting everything. Regards and thank you for trying to help.
