I have an Lenovo 3000 N100 running Windows XP. Can you update with a different motherboard to run a current OS such as windows 10 or a MAC OS system?
Motherboards are not swapable in laptops. Nor can you run a MAC OS on a laptop made for Windows.
As well as the motherboard you need to replace the screen, keyboard, disk drive, power supply, and case. Then you can run Windows 10 or Mac OS.
The Lenovo 3000 N100 is over 10 years old & only supports up to 2GB (2 x 1GB) RAM. If you max out the RAM, you'd be able to run Win7 or probably Win10, but neither would run all that well. Your best bet would be Linux. https://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,28...
Thanks for your reply. I wondered why you could not update to Windows 8 when Microsoft offered free updating, now I know.
Thank you for your reply. I did not think you could install a different motherboard, but was not sure. It is cheaper to buy a new computer, but this Lenovo is much better than a newer model that I have purchased a few years ago. All I have ever done in the 3000 is a new hard drive. It still works great.
Thanks, that would be more than a new computer would cost. The 3000 seems to be better built than newer models and I hoped to continue to use it, but alas, not so.
