Specs: Windows 7
can someone please help me get my gateway laptop runing
can't get pass the Gateway screen that tells me to press F10 for the boot menu or F2 for the BIOS menu. nothing is happening...please help

What happens when you press F2? At a guess I'd say you have a problem with the system trying to find your operating system, so the first thing to check (in the BIOS) is that your harddrive is being recognised.

Hello , thanks for your help , well my friend gave me a operating system windows xp but it's a dell and my lap top is a gateway oh it was doing it's set up then stops and give msg 12544

You still need to check in the BIOS first to (a) see that your harddrive is correctly recognised, and (b) that your system is set to boot from the CD drive, followed by the harddrive.

If your Dell CD is a full version of XP (not n recovery disk) then you should be able to reload your OS using it, but if Gateway have modified the BIOS then you may have problems unless your're using Gateway media (if there's any mention of Gateway in the BIOS then this may be the case).

The error number your getting will have a load of other info as well - this may help in diagnosing the cause of it.

Hey thanks a bunch this infor you giving me will be helpfull but one other qustion how can I get gateway a gateway operating system dis...
oh and sir one other thing it did do most of the set of the dell dis but then stop and ask if unknow pertittion

Sorry, no ideas on getting a Gateway disk, I know from experience that they are not the most helpful company, but you could try asking them. The unknown partition error could still be down to a faulty harddrive - Ideally you need to find the make of the drive and then download/run a manufacturer's diagnostic test on it.
