Can only start in normal mode after safe mode

Specs: Windows XP

For some reason, the only time I can start my computer in normal mode is if I first start it in safe mode and then restart to normal mode from safe mode. But I have to do this EVERY TIME. If I just shut down from normal mode, the next time I restart I get the black screen of death! I've run stopzilla and the system is now virus free (It had several viruses before but I removed them)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try this

you may need your original xp installation cd

start > run and type

SFC /scannow then hit enter

{notice space between C and /}

Thanks for the advice, I tried it but it didn't work! Still can't start up in normal mode unless i first start up in safe mode then restart.

Any other suggestions?
