Can I use any Dell Reinstallion CD to restore

Specs: Windows XP Pro
I bought a Dell Optiplex 745 used/refurbished. It came with XP Pro and SP2. I did not get a reinstallation CD but now I need to reinstall the software. If I buy a Dell XP Pro reinstalltion CD used on ebay will it work on my PC? I do have the product key for my machine. Could I use one with SP1 and then upgrade it later?

The OEM code will not work with a retail version of XP. It's tied to that particular machine's restoration partition. If you still have the restoration partition, use that, then add SP 2 or 3.. Or maybe the new disk has its own code?

I hope it works because I had to go ahead and bid or let it go. It is a DELL disco so I'm hoping...

I bought a DELL OEM Windows XP SP3 disc on eBay and it works fine with my DELL Optiplex GX240. Windows Product Activation is not needed after installation. The DELL OEM disc also works with my Compaq Deskpro EN, but a hack file is needed to bypass Windows Product Activation after installation. I purchased the OEM disc for $40. It is possible to make copies of the install disc using CDBurnerXP (freeware) so that a backup disc is always available.
