Microsoft Internet explorer 8
April 20, 2010 at 04:08:24
Specs: Windows XP Professional SP3, 1.33ghz, 512mb RAM
Hi

I can see from looking on here, this is a common problem, but if someone could help me out?

I am running IE8, I know the general internet connection is ok, cos my laptop via the wireless connection works ok downstairs. I have run AVG, Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, and nothing except tracking cookies found.

Yet IE is almost unusable, as everything on searching just slows down to a standstill. No 'error' messages, or Page Not Found, just 'connecting', and endless pause, no matter what website - the same websites work fine on the laptop downstairs.

I see some people have benefitted from others on here analysing a HJT log, I've never used HJT, but if someone can take the time to look at mine, I'll give it a go?

NOTE - I am now having to post this from the laptop downstairs, as the home PC has done exactly as described upstairs...can't even run computing.net's scan.

Many thanks

Marc

Ok post the log. Also if you would post a NETSTAT log too it would be helpful.

Thanks. I will try to, I ran HJT earlier, but it froze as everything internet-based is doing on that PC (on the laptop at the moment).

No Viruses just a serious bloatware problem. You have too many network diagnostics tools running at the same time which are looking at your packets as they flow through your computer. The problem with this is that it will take forever for you data to get through them all.

First I would get rid of SUPERAntiSpyware because if you are running AVG then you should be good.

Second, get rid of the Cannon product search and updater crap. Only keep the scan tools and drivers.

You may want to remove the ATI tools as well or at least take them out of your startup. Unless this is a laptop that goes on projectors your really don't need them.

Last, can you use something other than Zone Alarm? I have had so many problems with them. I kinda like Commodo but all outgoing firewalls are going to slow your system down.

Again not a virus problem but a problem with too many apps running on the computer.

OK thanks. I did just download and ran some software to run a NETSTAT scan, although it wouldn't let me export the results to a logfile, despite activating the software. I did screendump to MSWord to attempt to show you that, but if you think you've identified what is slowing everything, then I'll try that first. I must say I've not added much new recently, yet it is only in the last 2 weeks this has started happening.

Hi

Re: ATI, I have ATI display drivers, ATI Hydravision, ATI Control Panel all listed in 'Add/Remove Programs'. Can I safely remove these without affecting the monitor's performance?

Have removed most others you advised, I only use the Canon for basic printing, so don't need all the other crap, you're right. Zone Alarm has occasionally warned me of a rogue program trying to access the internet, so am slightly wary of removing it, I did consider Commodo...

IE does seem to be speeding up, something is working :)

Just ATI Hydravision, ATI Control Panel. Leave the drivers. If you don't have the drivers disk you might want to download them just incase you need to reinstall them.

Also you can do a...

NETSTAT -b > Netstatlog.txt

which will make a text file for you.

Hi, no it's no directly connected to our cable broadband modem. It and the wireless router (that the laptop uses) both run off the modem.
