OEM computers very rarely come with discs these days. You are supposed to create your one yourself when you receive the computer as new.

When the computer boots and as soon as anything appears on the screen, start tapping F8 until the boot menu appears. There should be various option, Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking last Good configuration and a few others.

There should also be a repair option. Select this and follow the instructions. It should then replace the boot files.

If this fails you will need to find someone that has a Windows 7 Repair disk for the same kind of computer as yours.

NO, you don't press and hold, you tap F8. It does make a difference.

There is no where you can legally download Windows 7.

I've tried both holding and tapping and still get the same black lovely screen.
F2 and F12 load fine but no options for a system restore,... guess i am s.o.l
thanks anyway for your help.

You are going to need to find a repair disk that you can boot from. No other way I am afraid,

"thank you, this laptop didnt come with a disc :("
Borrow one that matches your W7.
Or,
Download the ISO file for the version of Windows 7 you own & then burn to a DVD or flash/thumb drive.

Once you have W7 on a DVD or flash drive, here is another way.

1: Go into the bios & change the boot order to boot from the DVD or flash/thumb drive. Save the settings ( Usually F10, read your screen )
2: Insert your W7 DVD ( If you have chosen to use a flash/thumb drive, put that in before you boot the comp )
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/3252...
3: Select > Command Prompt ( as per the link above ) and type in your OS drive (usually C:\)
4: Type in bootrec /fixmbr & press > Enter
5: Type in bootrec /fixboot & press > Enter
6: Type in bootrec /rebuildbcd & press > Enter
7: Type exit & press > Enter
8: Remove the DVD or flash/thumb drive
9: Restart your computer, go into the bios & change the boot order, to boot from the Hard drive first. Save the setting. You should now boot up normally.

"I can do alot with / on computers"
That should help us sort this out.

"i am learning so much tonight"
The learning never stops.

"when i agree to look at this laptop"
Good on you, you also seem to have the determination, to not give up.

Make sure you get the product number for W7, probably on the case or under the battery.
If it has worn off, the owners paper work is the next step.
