Boot problem after trying to install AC97 snd

July 18, 2009 at 07:32:00
Specs: Windows XP
My old emachine T3828's sound stopped working so I downloaded some drivers for the AC97 sound system and began the install. In the middle of the install process, the system started a reboot process... the install was not complete at this point. When the reboot started it got to the Mup.sys and hung up.. I left it at this screen for a very long time and nothing happens... I am unable to boot my system now. It hangs at the Mup.sys file and never boots.. Can anyone help me with this?

Thank you, Tufenuf.

I read the article and it was enlightening but hopefully the problem is now resolved. I took the hard drive out and connected it to a "working" computer as a slave drive. Then I removed all the links to the AC97 downloaded file. I also removed the mup.sys file and a file named "last good config" or something like that. I reinstalled the disk drive into the emachine and prayed for the computer to boot. When I turned it on, I chose "Boot to Command prompt" and it restarted 2 times and then let me choose "normal" config and it is up and is running at this time.

Thanks for responding to my call for help!
