Blue screen.....unmountable_boot_volume

Dell Dimension e310 desktop

Specs: Windows XP, 2.0 gigs
power went out and computer turned off. When I turned it back on it went to a blue screen and says unmountable_boot_volume. I cant even get it to start up in safe mode to diagnose anything.

Thank you so much for your reply. I have no windows disks. For some reason all of the original disks came up missing. Is there any way to fix without them?

sorry, I don't see any way to do it seeing that you cannot even access safe mode.
What exactly happens when you try safe mode?
Have you tried tapping f11 on startup to see if there is a hidden partition?

have not tried f11 but will. have I basically lost everything on my computer as far as pics, music, files? When I try safe mode, it just goes back to the blue screen. I did get it to boot to utility. I tried running some tests from there but every error that popped up it said something like write protected... blah blah blah cannot repair.

I would suggest you remove the HD and slave it to another pc via usb or by slaving it to another tower. That way you can remove all the files you want to save. It does NOT save programs, they will have to be re-installed.
