Battery on Evesham 8375 laptop

Specs: Windows XP
Hi, I have recently been given my parents old laptop which was barely running. I formatted their hard drive and did a fresh install of Windows XP. The laptop is now running much better but the battrey no longer works. The battery worked before I installed windows so the problem isn't that the battery has lost its charge. It's almost as if the machine has no idea that it has a battery. I assumed it could be a driver problem so tracked down the driver disc that came with the machine. Still no joy, Obviously Evesham have gone bust so I can't contact them. Has anyone got any idea's?
Oh yeah I've also tried an online program to install any missing or outdated drivers but still no joy.

Thanks

It has to be a coincidence as the OS has nothing to do with the battery charging or even being seen by the laptop. remove the battery and reseat it, it may just be a bad connection. Some batteries have indicator lights on them to tell you how much of a charge they have left. If your has these, does it show a charge?

Yeah the laptop has an indicator light that hasn't worked since my intervention. There also used to be an indicator in the taskbar that showed you the current charge. This has disapeared also. Thanks for your suggestions though I will look at the battery itself to make sure it's still connected properly.

Tried removing the battery still no joy. Think I'm stuck using the power cable unless anyone has any other idea's?
