Re-post from Apr 2009, I have read most solutions to prevent an AVI file from crashing Explore. It does not matter how the AVI folder is set to view, list or thumbnails, the second you open the folder with Explorer, freezes up.

And even this resolve does not work "Search for this entry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}\InProcServer32 and delete it.

This does not stop windows from displaying the avi as a thumb and will stop explorer from crashing. My folders are set to view List.

Nor does downloading ShellExView, and disable AVI Handler stop explorer from crashing.

Is there any definitive answer out there. As I have read some who deleted the Registry string say it worked. Something else must be causing the freezing up, mpeg, wmv or other formats do not do this.

Thank you, Doc
