Audio is too high at start up

February 11, 2011 at 00:37:51
Specs: Windows XP
I have Windows XP and have not had this problem until recently. I adjust the sound after start up but it reverts to full volume on my next start up. I have checked the settings in the Control Panel and other places. I updated drivers but the problem is still there. Can anyone help?

Have you checked your monitor volume?

Janetrf, thought (gaspain?). After you've set things the way you like, exit Windows using the option under 'file' (only needs to be done once) rather than the handier 'X'. That forces Windows to 'remember' settings and use them on subsequent boots.

Thanks for your prompt reply MrGoodguy. In 5 years, I've never touched the controls on my monitor so I tried changing the volume (which was set to 50). It didn't make any difference when I started up again. As my speakers are not directly connected to the monitor, I suspect that that is why it didn't change anything. I am not very experienced with technical things! Thanks for trying to help.

Thanks Ed. Sorry for the late response but Cyclone Yasi put me off the air, so volume wasn't a problem! I tried what you said but to no avail. I guess I'll have to live with it until something else happens.
