After my computer loads all programs at Start Up, an ad for Micro Trend suddenly appears. I have to X it out. How can I get rid of this?

Use a program to edit the startup list. Eg, msconfig - which is built in to XP or autoruns (google to find) which has more options.

Thanks for your reply. I am a novice user and don't want to download any more programs. Is there a way to get rid of this startup ad without downloading extras?

As Steve said, msconfig is built in already. You just type msconfig in the Run box and hit Enter.

Loook for Trend Micro (or similar) in Startup tab and untick it if present. If you manage this you will get an "msconfig reminder box" on starting up, so you will then need to put a tick in its box so that it no longer appears.

As far as I know Trend Micro is not spyware. Disabling it in msconfig might be a way to shut it up but it will still remain in the system. The "location" given in msconfig (assuming it's there) would give you the information to remove it more elegantly but that's another story.....

some other bloke...

I tried this and did not find the Micro Trend under the Start Up tab or failed to recognize it.
