July 28, 2012 at 23:42:57
Specs: Windows XP
Safari is causing high CPU usage in my PC

Windows XP SP2
1 GB RAM
AMD Sempron LE-1100 2.0Ghz

Safari is hell faster than all other browsers and also very eye relaxing
Its very soft in looks
I really want to use this browser but after sometime of usage it drives nuts with CPU almost 100% usage & even courser lags.
I don't even Use tab more than 1

I am using Safari 5.1.4

Thanks!

"Safari is hell faster than all other browsers"

Safari is widely considered to be the slowest browser for Windows...

"almost 100% usage & even courser lags."

...and you just proved it.

Does your computer only slow down when Safari is running? Hit ctrl+shift+esc and click processes. Is Safari monopolizing the CPU, or are there any other processes using CPU time as well?

Your could also try Chrome or Opera. They're much better browsers. Even Apple doesn't think Safari for Windows is a good idea:

I don't know why you are telling this

Safari is widely considered to be the slowest browser for Windows...

But its much faster than all the browsers i ever used like

CHROME,OPERA,FIREFOX (memory leakage)

CPU usage i very high only when i use safari.
When i close it everything is down to 4-15% & 0-2 at idle
As lookin' into task manager i found that webkit named something is causing this problem, when terminate it safari UI restarts (only UI) & then it works charm for 5-10mins & then all bump to 100%

Webkit is the Safari Engine.

Have you un-installed and re-installed ?

Have you checked for Safari Updates ?

As you state Safari works better than other browsers, then maybe you have other issues, as generally Chrome or Opera are recommended ?

ARM Devices the future. Windows have accepted the fact!

All other browsers works charm but not as fast as browsing speed in safari.
I tired other versions of safari
Tried reinstalling
Tried clearing cache,history, ( Ccleaner )

Still the same problem
Currently using CHROME but not speedy as safari.

Another problem is FONT RENDERING its hard to eyes
is it possible to render fonts with gdi++ as the safari does?

Why haven't you upgraded to SP3?

You've been told that Safari is slower than Chrome, FireFox, Opera, & even IE. And there's plenty of test sites out there that have tested & confirmed that. Do you have a Gmail account used with Safari? I found this recommendation in another forum: "deactivate the google service WEB GL in Safari's Developer Menu".

Sorry Its SP3 already ( my mistake )

deactivate the google service WEB GL in Safari's Developer Menu
There's no such thing in safari 5.1.4

I don't have problem using Chrome but

-It uses a lot of ram after a use of 1-2 hour
when looking into task manager there are several chrome named processes are running & eating lots of memory, terminating them causes chrome to crash.
( it should not eat 600 - 1.2 GB of memory in task manager )

-First start of chrome takes 3-5 minutes to start & even lags for sometime, about 10-15 seconds ( it should not take more than 2-5 seconds to start )

Otherwise it all charm!!
