I saw an item advertised on I registered and then proceeded to check out the item. I couldn't get past the shipping info page. I entered name, address, phone number, etc. I had to cancel out but I was wondering what happens to my information. Should I be concerned? I only entered email address and password to register and then had to cancel out of the order because I couldn't get to the next page after the shipping information page. I went back to the site and it recognized me and I emptied the cart. Does Amazon send a lot of junk mail to registered users? Should I be worried that my info on the shipping page may have been saved? Thanks for responding.

I've been with for years and have never had any more issues with them than any other company you give your information to. You can always opt out of any emails sent to you (which they do send a lot, admittedly, though I've never had any postal mail), but they are governed by the same rules concerning data protection.

Incidentally, I always recommend people to (a) set up a second email address for use with on-line purchasing. (b) always use a low credit limit credit card for any purchases as it's then the bank's money that's compromised not yours if things go wrong, never use a debit card unless absolutely necessary.
