It looks like your file associations got screwed up.

Fix your EXE file association. Download this:http://www.winhelponline.com/fileasso/exe_fix_w7.zip

Extract the .REG file to your Desktop. Right-click the REG file and choose Merge.

Alternatively, you can open the Registry Editor by pressing the WinLogo+R key and type "REGEDIT" (w/o the quotes) then click on File > Import. Merge the REG file's contents.

NOTE: If your EXE file association is corrupted, it can be difficult to open REGEDIT, or to even import REG files. To work around this, press CTRL-ALT-DEL and open Task Manager. Once there, click File, then hold down the CTRL key and click New Task (Run). This will open a Command Prompt window. Enter REGEDIT.EXE and press Enter.

For other file types that won't open:

For example, if you have a program shortcut that won't open, fix the LNK file association.

The first link in #1 is not active but we generally avoid links directly to files anyway.
Both links appear to be for Windows 7 and should NOT be used on Windows XP.

Run the EXE fix from this website instead:

"i did it"

Can you confirm that you did that given in response #2 (NOT #1 which is incorrect for XP)? If so, did you download and Save the zip file then extract the reg file?
Did you get anything on the screen when you "double clicked the reg file"?

If all else fails use System Restore to a date before this happened, although I regard that as a rather big gun (which at odd times has cobbled things up) because the simple fix above usually does the trick.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Your specs say XP and you have posted this in the XP forum.

Are you now saying you have Windows 7?
