I'm trying to reinstall Windows XP Home Edition. After formatting and a restart, the program simply resets to original start. What am I doing wrong, or is the disc corrupted?

I never had to format then reboot. It may be a bit confusing but try it again and read the notes carefully. It might be that you are not accepting the agreement.

"After formatting and a restart, the program simply resets to original start"

What do you mean by "original start"? I don't know how you're reformating or why you're rebooting afterward, but formating wipes the HDD. When you reboot, there's nothing "original" there. If anything, you should be getting the message, "no operating system found".
