ntfs is more stable and allows for file level security. It handles large drives better than fat32. Ntfs handles larger file sizes. Ntfs can read fat file system (like most flash drives are formatted in) and it reads Ntfs. Fat cannot read ntfs.

FAT does not read NTFS and NTFS does not read FAT. The operating system reads the file system and has nothing to do with what file system the drive is partitioned with.

Like THX 1138 says, NTFS doesn't read anything. The operating system reads both NTFS and FAT2. Each knows nothing about the other.

Oh.........I see, it's the operating system. So, if you have windows XP installed on a fat 32 partition it will also see any Ntfs partitions?
