Administrator user account is gone

June 2, 2011 at 19:43:37
Specs: Windows XP
I added myself as a limited user. When I logged off, both my mother's account (which is the adminstrator account) and my account (limited account) were listed. After re-starting the computer my mother's administrator account has completely disappeared. I've gone to the control panel and checked it all out. Nothing is there. I have also right clicked on "my computer", then hit "manage" and tried to make changes there however, seeing as how I am logged in on my account (because that is the only option for me) it keeps telling me my access is denied. We have been working on this for four days now and need a solution. If anyone has a step by step process, that I've not already tried, I would be extremely grateful!

do you remember the password for the admin account ? If yes then
press ctrl+ ALT+DEL at the login screen . You will see a login box .

Provide the username and password for administrator account. Hopefully you should able to get in. Then go and make changes you want..

Otherway to get in is safe mode..In safe mode you will see all accounts..

I think windows XP hides administrator account from logon screen once you have created extra users.. (there is a registry hack to enable it but i wont recommend here until needed..)

IT WORKED!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!

Now that that's finished I need a step by step process on how to install my Linksys WRT54G wireless router. I'm trying to run it through a desktop computer so we can use two laptops anywhere in the house off of our own secured wireless network. I thought I had it all set up but when I went to my networks mine wasn't listed. What am I doing wrong or is there an easy to understand process I should start over and try again?
