Admin account not allowing lesser security

August 21, 2009 at 03:09:02
Specs: XP Pro srv pk 2, Dual PIII500
I have an administrator account which has DropMyRights applied to some shortcuts which runs the app as a Limited User. But it no longer works. No error shows, it still runs like it should but is able to save into Program Files etc which it shouldnt do.

My other admin accounts works, and any new one I create does too. Which seems to me to be either a HKCU setting in the registry or a group policy needs setting for that account.

I can RunAs a User on the app and that'll work, but I want to fix this problem.

Ive checked the Local Users and Group settings under Computer Management and it sees fine.

Where and how are the level of security set?

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

To answer your question they are set in the Group Policy Objects. To edit the GPO run gpedit.msc.

I don't think this is what you mean though. There are different kinds of security on the system like File Security, System Security, and more. What is it that you are trying to secure so that we can better answer your question?

It sounds like you are having a problem running an app with any other user other than the administrator. If so we need to know what the app needs rights to that the regular users do not have access to. So what is the app you are trying to run?

Hi. Im trying to secure Firefox, IE and Microsoft Live Mail. It used to work, but Ive no idea when it broke so doing system restore isnt an option. Basically I just want to run them as Limited User privilages.
