Specs: Windows wp
the text on the monitor is blurry, unreadable, its an old monitor, any ideas? I see in places that degaussing is suggested but I can't work out how to try this - and can't read the screen to find my way around!

Glenys, FYI, degaussing is demagnetizing. Most modern monitors have it available as a built-in feature and it simply requires selection.
If yours doesn't offer it, it can be done manually. Any TV repair shop should be able to handle it. Basically, it's just waving a large magnet around the screen to randomize the aim of the electron guns in a CRT. Tried focus on the monitor? Most allow adjustment.

Thanks Ed for replying, how good to hear from Texas! I can't see if I can do anything with the focus, can't read the text to find out where and I am helping out my elderly father. will try a rrepair place or magnet. Glenys Australia

Wow, where did you come up with that? Not even close.

Degausing demagnatizes the shadow mask.

Randomly moving a magnet around a CRT will usually mess up the colors quite nicely.

Many CRT monitors have a degauss button or automatically degauss on every start. If the monitor has a row of buttons at the bottom look for a degauss button.

Could be you are using the wrong resolution and/ or refresh rate for the monitor.

Using Truetype fonts may also help. Could be the monitor has just past its prime and needs to be put to pasture.
