Accounts missing safe mode

Specs: Microsoft Windows XP SP2 Home, 2.522 GHz / 1535 MB
Hi,

Hope you bright minds can help. No longer have the administrator account and my user account showing up on the welcome screen in safe mode. It just enters my user account rather than give me a choice of the administrator account or user account. A system restore didn't help. Also in normal mode with administrator account showing with my user name on welcome screen administrator account is asking for a password. None was ever set. Leaving it blank doesn't work. By the way my user name has administrator rights.

Thanks in advance.

I think the "More Information" section in THIS article explain why there is no non-administration User Accounts screen in XP Safe Mode. M$ designed it this way.

Thanks for the reply XPuser. As I stated in my post my user account does have administration rights. But both it and administrator account does not appear in safe modes welcome screen. I knew non-administration User Accounts doesn't appear.

Have you considered a 'Repair Install'.

The three most important things in computing:
1. Backups, 2. Backups and 3. Backups.

For me I have done repair installs in the past for other reasons. I generally fine it it just screw up things even more. Like having to reinstall my printer drivers. Which is a lot of work when other problems like having to uninstall hp solution center then reinstall adobe flash activex and reinstall solution center. Solution center will not work after a repair install. These above steps need to be done to get it working again.

Seems if you enable autologon you user account and administrator account disappears from the welcome screen in safe mode. Disabling autologon does not bring it back. Found out that the only way to make it reappear is to delete administrator user profile from system properties, advance tab. Have to make sure the registry tweak to show administrator in normal mode is enabled. Next I rebooted into safe mode. Administrator and user account now appears. Logon on to administrator account once. Upon reboot in normal mode administrator account is recreated in the user profile of system properties. Only problem that hasn't been resolved is that now I have to click on my user name to logon. Before my troubles I was able to logon automatically. If I were to enable the autologon again it would just make the administrator account disappear from safe mode again. Guess I am suck with clicking on my user name to logon each time.
