Access files after a non-destuctive recovery

January 10, 2011 at 16:47:32
Specs: Windows XP, Intel
I have copied files from a dying hard drive but the files I need to access return a dialouge box titled "access denied". I am the admin and these are my files. What is the process to get access to these folders and files?

... are the files in a folder on another partition? ie. unhidden recovery partition

... if so is the partition a Fat32 volume?

... are the files in a folder which is showing "access denied"?

... or is it the partition that is showing access denied?

... or are the files in the main NTFS drive in a folder?

Try taking ownership http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421

Good luck.

Did you Google for an answer before asking the question?

The files are now in a folder titled "My old Disk Structure" which I can open. I can open the folder Documents and Settings, Administrators, and All Users; but not my personal folder.

... are the files in a folder which is showing "access denied"? yes
