Solved Access denied error message Reading Win7 HDD with XP machine

Specs: Windows XP, Intel M 2.0 GB
I have a drive from a physically destroyed Win7 laptop. I've successfully connected it to an XP laptop with a USB to SATA adapter cable & power supply.

Problem: All attempts to access the individual files inside the "Documents and Settings" folder result in an "access denied" error message.

Question: How can I access/copy individual files within subfolders of this directory?

You probably just need to take ownership of the folder:

✔ Best Answer
You are denied access because you're trying to open folders which were created under a different user account than the one you're using now.

You need to "take ownership" of the folders you wish to access:

Or if you boot off a Linux disc, you'll then be able to access the folder(s).
