A program setup wizard pops up at startup

February 7, 2011 at 01:30:20
Specs: Windows XP
Setup wizard of a program called total video converter pops up at every start up. I've uninstalled this program completely long time ago (4 months) but i believe something is wrong in the registry. Even if I install it as advised and reboot, I will get a setup wizard on the next startup to install it again.

Please help! thank you

tourist_94, SWAG, a couple of 'maybes', take a look at your startup menu and be sure it isn't in there (sorta doubt it, but...). A popup is most likely a worm/trojan nasty. There're several free scanners around that can handle one, but be aware that a virus and a worm/trojan aren't the same and not all AVs can clean one. Be sure to run a worm/trojan specific cleaner.

Type msconfig in the Run box. Go to the startup tab and see if it's listed there, if so untick it. It's probably a registry left-over but if you find it in msconfig it will get it out of your hair.

We all live on the same ball.

Have you stopped the popup, if so what did you do?
