32 bit high color wont hold

Specs: Windows XP sp1a
reinstalled xp home from cd due to freeze up
reinstallation cd came with dell inspiron 1100 laptop. i set the screen resolution on 1024x768 high color 32 bit. when I restart the laptop the resolution stays on 1024x768 but the color drops back to low color 8 bit.
this occures evertime i restart.
is there a fix for this.

Did you install the video Drivers, and any others that are needed
by other hardware ????

i installed the reinstalling driver cd that came with the laptop
when I installed the xp operating system I was asked if I wanted to have the video setting set by windows I clicked yes.

You may not eithr have enough RAM installed or have enough shared to the graphics in the BIOS screens.

Should I bother asking why you're running the 7-yr old SP1a instead of SP3?

8-bits means you didn't install the video drivers. You probably didn't install the chipset drivers, audio drivers, LAN drivers, etc & are running with the generic drivers included in Windows.

I had downloaded and installed all the latest drivers from the dell site you suggested, but the problem still exists. I have also just installed SP2, I just messed up some where, when I go to the sites that say they will fix and update drivers, they just want to sell you something.
