Specs: Windows XP
Have two PC's in two rooms via, router and cable, both went to Firefox Google then to any site put in Search box. Now my first PC works but the 2nd added PC will go to Firefox Google but and word in Search box or put in address space goes to an uploading blank page forever. How do I fix this please. Also, please make it very simple and step by step...I have AVG and AVAST AVIRA AntiVir did their scans and used my CCleaner, Eusing Registry Cleaner, and Advanced System Care to clean, erase and check for viruses, malware etc. and defragged . Also unplugged both PC.s and the one router but nothing seems to fix the 2nd PC from Googling to a blank page forever ( you can see the wheel turning in the top right corner). Thank you for any help you can give me. Sincerely, old hippie

It could be a series of things. Must take them one at a time.
start > control panel> internet options. on the first page (general tab) what is listed as the home page? If it is blank. you need to fill in the space with the correct URL of the home page you wish to use and then click apply.

On the security tab ...make sure that the security options is set for default. If set correctly the default setting will be greyed out and custom will be the only option. In the box with the Icons click each icon and select default setting and apply.
then go to connections tab....click lan settings and make sure the search for url is checked.

Try that and then let us know if that helps.

Hi did as you asked on both PCs ( the 1st PC that works fine and the 2nd PC that goes to Firefox Google page) ..I typed in Search box ..eBay and will go to LIST of eBay sites but when I click a site ...for any search not just eBay...it goes to a blank page and keeps trying to load. So did as you asked...START>CONTROL>INTERNET OPTIONS>...1st computer had different address in home page than 2nd PC..first PC that works had http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?Lin...
and 2nd PC had http://www.google.com ..I put both PCs on one then other address and also did security tab to default and Icons each to default and APPLY...but when I went to connections tab and clicked LAN settings it didn't show Search for URL which you asked me to make sure was checked. It gave me a choice of Local LAN settings
and two boxes...Said Automatic configuration may override manual settings. To ensure the use of manual settings disable automatic configuration and a choice of 2 boxes..box 1 Automatically detect settings and box 2 Use Automatic configuration script....tried both on both PCs ( right now they're on Auto detect) and still 1st PC works fine and goes to sites and 2nd PC goes to Google, list of sites but when one site clicked, won't to to site, just a blank uploading page...so no difference trying the first solution...what should I try next and please let me know if I should just leave the 1st PC alone and try your instructions on 2nd PC only OR both etc lol.....I've been running back and forth between the rooms making sure both PC say the say things and the same boxes are checked lol.....the address on both PCs is the one that ends in Link Id=69157 Again, I appreciate the help you're giving me.
