I searched for your problem in Microsoft Knowledge Base.
This is what they have.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324103
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you have the CD's to install Windows XP?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can put your hard drive into another Windows XP as a slave
and run Error checking.
Start - My Computer - Right click the extra drive - properties - Tools Tab -
Check mark both boxes - Start now - Requires a Restart.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To try on your own computer
When you turn your computer on start tapping the F8 key.
With the Arrow Keys select - Safe Mode Command Prompt -
A new command to help Repair your computer.
Start - Run - Type - chkdsk /r - press Enter
Don't forget the space between K /
After you click on Y for yes and
Type - exit - and press the Enter Key.
If needed press (same time) ctrl key +alt key + delete and log off.
You can now Restart your computer to begin chkdsk /r
If all steps are not perfect you should be able to follow.
