xcopy command in ms-dos does not work

Specs: Windows Vista
I have been using ms-dos in vista to backup my files. When I run my program, it tells me that xcopy is not a valid command.

That's because there is no dos in Vista. It has a command prompt but the old dos commands don't work as they did.
Type help at the command prompt for a list of valid commands.

I have been using a backup program I wrote and it worked fine until about a month ago. The "HELP" command is also not valid. Something has changed, but I am not sure what. The "COPY command will work, but not "XCOPY".

It appears the XCOPY still works in Vista so you have an unknown problem.
