Won't wake from sleep mode

My Dell computer with Vista has recently started refusing to wake up after I put it into sleep mode. When I return to the computer and move the mouse, etc. the screen comes on and says it is going into power save. I have to hold the computer's power button for 10 seconds to shut the computer down. Then I start it up and the first screen I see tells me the computer did not shut down successfully and gives me options how to restart. It then restarts normally. Any thoughts?

Are you using S1 or S3 sleep mode(for the latter, the fans stop spinning) ? Also, have you downloaded the latest video drivers ?

Must be S3 as the fans stop running. I have not downloaded any video drivers in a long time. The only thing I have done recently is to run an install disc for a HP printer that for some reason went "offline" and would not print.

Do you recall installing something especially Windows Updates in the last 10 days?

I have my computer check daily and automatically install updates. Since my restore date the following numbered updates were installed: KB915597,905866,960715,961260,890830,915597,960544,915597,951847
