Windows won't load virus

December 1, 2011 at 11:50:09
Specs: Windows Vista
Virus disabled windows from starting. I get the option to open in Safe Mode, SM with networking etc, to no avail. Then the computer restarts. I burned Malwarebytes from another computer and tried that but to no avail. It won;t read CD's. Then I tried to load the recovery CD that came with the computer and that does nothing.
I just burned AVG recovery and nada

You seem to be going about this in a very haphazard way & your post is very confusing. You say you tried starting in safe mode etc. "to no avail" , but then you say "the computer restarts". You have 'tried' Malwarebytes, which can only run from within Windows, saying you've 'burned it', but CDs cannot be read.... etc. etc.

So, to start with. You say a virus has stopped Windows from starting - at what point does the boot process stop? does it loop, blue-screen, or just black-screen? Has something told you that you have a virus? You mention that 'it won't read CD's' and that trying to load the recovery CD 'does nothing' - that simply implies that you haven't got your system set to boot from the optical drive - nothing more. And no idea what AVG recovery aims to do....

So, you have to explain more clearly the point at which your PC currently stands. Can you boot to Windows, in any state? Have you tried doing a 'repair my computer' if it is available from the F8 menu, just to get it started? What security program(s) do you have on your system? - have you managed any scans? If you have given up and want to load the recovery CD, have you changed the BIOS settings to boot from said CD?

I'd just reload the OS from OEM disks or recovery disks.

I guess you could try to boot to the vista dvd and use the repair tools.

ok. I cannot load windows.

I turn the the computer on and press F11. I get a black screen with white text that gives me the choice of Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking and so on. I tried each one. Each time there is a screen with white text that look like codes that only computer people know and it scrolls up and then the screen goes blank. Then the computer restarts itself. The monitor and speakers restart themselves and the computer tries to once again to load windows.... but then I am back to the option of selecting safe mode, Safe mode with Networking, etc.

I went upstairs to my other computer that is not infected by a virus and burned a copy of Malwarebytes (since I can't get to it in Windows) and a copy of AVG Recovery-which is basically another Malwarebyte type of program.

I went back downstairs to the infected computer and inserted the Malwarebytes CD and nothing happens; So I inserted the AVG disk that I burned on the non infected computer and nothing happenes. 'Nothing happens' means the CD won't load to they are pointless. And Windows won't load.

"I turn the the computer on and press F11. I get a black screen with white text that gives me the choice of Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking and so on"

You are still very confused, you didn't press F11 to get to that screen, you pressed F8.

Follow Jefro's advise and reload your operating system from the recovery discs.

Then you don't have full recovery disks. You may have disks that need a hidden partition to work. They could also be bad or wrong. Contact OEM for replacement set and owners manual. It would tell how to proceed.
