windows will not install in vaio vgn-nr140e

Specs: Windows vista, 1gb
i have a vaio vgn-nr140e and when i start the computer in doesnt go into windows. I've tried using the repair disk but after the vista loading screen it freezes and stays there for hours. Please i need help, thanks in advance

From what i understand of the instructions i would have to be in windows to install the update, but windows does not start. is there any other way of installing it?

i've tried every F button. only f2 works and takes me to the bios, with limited options available. I've heard a lot about alt+ f10, and it doesnt work. I know of f8 to start in safe mode and it doesnt work either.

Yes, I tried every F key and alt + F10. Thanks for your help, but it isn't working. Is there anything else you can suggest? My guess is that the hard drive either completely broke, or burnt. This happened to one of my friends and he just replaced the HDD and he had me Install Windows 7 and it was working fine. But I don't want to risk buying the HDD and then it turns out being something else.
