Solved Windows Vista hangs at start -up.

January 15, 2015 at 03:15:51
Specs: Windows Vista, 2gb
I haven't been able to boot up the windows Vista on my Acer aspire 5315 recently. It hangs with a dark screen. I tried pressing F8 to get the repair windows options. It began checking my system for problems and i then received a message saying that windows cannot detect any problems.
The Laptop is a dual boot with windows 7 on the other partition. That works perfectly.
I have backed up the data on the Vista partitopn and so am not concerned about losing data but I have some useful software on the Vista partition which I want to keep. I really want to get it working again.Any ideas.

have resisted the temptation to format and restore windows vista from Back-up. I have downloaded the boyans utility software and will install it on the windows 7 partition and see if it solves the dual boot vista problem.

Ok thanks. Do I change the boot order in the bios to usb to make this run once I have the flash drive set up?

When you went to the F8 boot menu, did you also try booting to safe mode?

"The Laptop is a dual boot with windows 7 on the other partition. That works perfectly."
Have you tried a repair from your Vista CD.

" I have some useful software on the Vista partition which I want to keep"
You should be able see & retrieve that from W7.

many thanks.

since I last posted I have checked my back-up hard drive and I thought I had only backed up the documents folder and desktop. I notice that I have also backed up the windows vista program files. So, maybe a restore of windows is possible.

Have run windows vista repair utility from f8 menu. This time I have got a message stating that 'the system volume is corrupted'.That would explain why the other partition is functioning normally. I now know exactly what the problem is . I think that the only option is to format the vista partition and use my back up hard drive to copy the original program files back onto it.
