Specs: Windows Vista, 64 Mb/Pentium 266
Hello, I Installed Windows Vista Business On My Dell Optiplex GX 400, P4 1.8, 1Gb. Ram, 200Gb. HDD. When I Go Into System Properties, And It Says Something About How The Key Can Not Be Used To Activate Windows.

The DVD I Used To Install Vista Was A Dell OEM Disk.

Thanks

Does the key you have definitely relate to the version you've installed? Has the key already been used on another system? OEM licences mean that they cannot be legally transferred between systems even if the old one has been scrapped.

Also, with the specs of your machine Vista will not run very happily so it may be a blessing in disguise.....

How Would The Computer Know If If The Disk Has Been Used? I Used An Unopened DVD, But Windows Won't Let Me Activate. It Says I Need A New Key.

The validation check routine doesn't care what disc or image you ran your Windows Setup from, the Product Key is what you cannot use to activate more than one installation at any given time.

you have to use the key that came with the disc when installing the OS, and then if it doesn't activate after the installation, you have to insert a different valid key to activate it.

I found a new key for it, except the hard drive crashed from overheating in this computer. (240 degrees was apparently too hot).
