Specs: Windows Vista

I have been having a problem attempting to update my computer. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad x-41 Tablet running Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit.

I have been trying to install the following update:
- Microsoft .NET framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86

The update downloads and after waiting for around 20-30 minutes while the computer appears to be working and installing the update, a window opens that states "Windows Modules Installer Has Stopped Working."

It gives me the option to "Check online for a solution (recommended)" or "close."

There is also a tab to see the problem details. Here are the problem details:

When I click "check online for a solution" A Window appears stating the following:

Download updates for Windows

Your computer might be missing updates that can help improve its stability and security.

Go online to check for and install Important updates.

Click to go online to the Windows Update website.

In the left pane, click Check for updates. If any updates are found, click View available updates.

Select all Important updates, and then click Install. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

If you have turned on automatic updating, you might not see any Important updates listed. If this is the case, the updates have already been downloaded to your computer.

To me this appears to be an incredibly annoying circle of trying to install updates that cant install and the only way to solve the problem is to install these uninstallable updates.

Please help!

Go to go then to the download center and try to
download from there.
OR do a system restore OR just REINSTALL Windows but also
before that search for Viruses.

Thanks for the reply AntonFZS.

I attempted to install the above mentioned update by downloading it from's download center. This did not work either. However, this time I received a different message. This time I received a message stating something along the lines that my system did not required this update or something like that. I made sure and it was the right version.

Any other ideas? Does the information I provided above give at least a hint at what the potential problem could be? A clean install would be such a hassle. My virus protection software shows my computer is clean.

All ideas / suggestions are welcome.

Thanks again,
