Specs: Windows Vista
I have not been able to complete windows update for quite some time now. Keep getting failed security update error 0X80073712. I have an HP Compaq machine with Windows Vista Home Basic 32 bit. I ran sfc /scannow. That log states some things could not be repaired. I dont know what to do from here.

You may have some malware. Do you have antivirus installed? If so run a scan with it and see what it finds. Also, download Malwarebytes and run a scan with it to see what it finds. To get Malwarebytes click HERE. It's free. Run the scans then try to run Windows Update and report back.

I do have antivirus, Microsoft Security Essentials. Previously Avast, I switched because I wondered about malware being an issue. I have ran Malware Bytes as well, in safe mode as well as in normal state. I have run TDSKiller, too. I ran sfc /scannow - looks to me like windows store??? corrupt? CBS log? Im so confused. I just backed up my system and I think (hope) selected all the drivers as well. Used Mozy. I think maybe I will need to do a clean reinstall of OS? Been trying to fix this for the last month.
