Windows Media Player

Specs: Windows Vista
I cannot play files via my WMP. I get the following message:Windows Media Player cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct.

Thanks for replying. The file is an attachment to an email but I have also tried to play the sample videos sent with Vista and they will not play although the music files do!
I have recently had the computer cleaned following a virus.

if they are from another location they may be protected, make sure that you save the file to your computer first.


if this dont work download VLC player this thing plays almost everything: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
