Windows Defender does not start

Specs: Windows Vista , 4 gb
Hello I have been trying to start my Windows Defender for some time with no luck. I always get the following message: application failed to initialize: 0x800106ba

I thought it was related to the Antivirus AVG 2011 so I changed to Avira but I still get the same issue.

And I also cannot download the updates for defender, which I assume it is related to the fact that I cannot start it. Any ideas?

hello Johnr

I went to the site but I cannot uninstall Defender in Vista. Or at least I dont know how.

Also, the first option that windows provide does not work.

And I tried to start the program manually from the Services application and I get the following message: error 0x8007003: The system cannot find the path specified

Thanks for your help!
