Specs: vista home premium , 1gb
just updated my wife's computer. it's running vista home premium. vista seems to be up to sp2 now. the computer was still on the first release, without a service pack, as near as i could tell. i looked at the computer info and, where the service pack number should show, there was none.

i normally would download a complete, standalone service pack but the microsoft site discouraged that, saying that users who weren't updating a lot of machines should just use windows update. it also said that service pack one was a prerequisite for service pack two.

i followed the ms recommendation and just used windows update to do the updating. after it finished (it took three hours) there is still nothing stated in the computer info about the current service pack.

is this normal? am i up to date now with service pack two? am i on service pack one, zero? how do i tell? i'd very much like to get up to date with this vista system but how do i tell where i am?

It should report the correct SP. Since it does not it is not.

Might have to reload the OS and then do updates. Some OEM's have a lot of problems with some of the updates. See any that apply to your system

You can try the standalone but I suspect it will fail.
